WE SAY YES TO three SIMPLE things:

more housing freedom
more transit freedom
MORE community & civic spaces near home

let’s BUILD A BETTER KNOXVILLE THROUGH:

  • HOUSING REFORM

The housing crisis is only getting worse, and one of the simplest ways to help add more homes to the market - and reduce the cost of homes in general - is to end ‘exclusionary zoning’. Single-family houses are great for some, but for many others, a duplex or fourplex is just as great. We can - and should - allow those to be built everywhere in town - while still protecting our neighborhoods’ characters.

  • TRANSPORTATION REFORM

Part of why people are struggling so much to live a great life is that we spend way too much on just getting around. This is because we have built our cities to rely on just the car. The best way to counter is to build our town in a way that allows easy travel in a way that isn’t a car. We should provide protected bike lanes, greenways, and a transit system that make crossing town as easy as driving.

  • COMMUNITY SPACE REFORM

The best communities are built around shared spaces where both neighbors and strangers are free to just ‘be’, without being forced to buy something or do something. These are places that, unlike stores, allow people to linger around as long as that want. Examples are: parks, cafes, libraries, barber shops, and breweries. Everyone deserves a place like this within a short walk from their home.
